What
is PSORIASIS :
Psoriasis is a recurring, non-contagious skin disorder that
is characterized by raised, thickened patches of red skin
covered with silvery-white scales that may or may not itch
and, in some cases, can cause disfugerement. Psoriasis varies
in severity and can affect any part of the body, including
the nails and the scalp. While a host of treatments are available
for psoriasis, they provide minimal improvement and are known
to have adverse side
effects.

TREATMENT
:
Current psoriatic treatments include topical medications, steroids, conventional
phototherapy and phototherapy PUVA. However, these conventional
approaches are not without drawbacks. Topical medications
dont work for everyone. Moreover, following the religious
programs of selfcare is not easy.
Steroids can cause thinning of the skin and stretch marks.
They can also cause glaucoma, cataract and other side effects.
Conventional phototherapy is costly and time-consuming. Sometimes
more than 30 exposures are required for improvement. Moreover,
phototherapy exposes healthy skin during treatment , placing
it at risk of burning and itching. The treatment also carries
many of the other risks of ultraviolet exposure, including
premature aging and a slight risk of skin cancer. Phototherapy
PUVA (ultraviolet light A used with the drug psoralen ) can
result in nausea, itching and redness as well as premature
aging and cataract. The XTRAC excimer laser phototherapy system
is the forst FDA approved laser treatment for psoriasis, vitiligo
and eczema. Light years ahead of other treatments, XTRAC
is designed to provide effective relief from psoriatic skin
lesions. XTRAC not only lessens the number of exposures necessary
to clear limited areas of psoriasis, it also reduces the total
exposure to UV radiation, which can cause other side effects.
Treatment is not at all painful . no anesthesia is necessary.
While most people do not experience any sensation, some patients
may feel slight warmth. Slight sunburn sensations may be felt
4-10 hours after treatment.
