Process
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from defined areas of the body using special instruments which hardly leave any scar. The principle behind it is the use of suction force that sucks the fat out and gradually the skin redrapes itself to give the final contours
The process is done under anesthesia, general, spinal or epidural anesthesia. Small areas can be done under local anesthesia also. Further the fat that is sucked out can be used to inject into breast, buttocks, lip, labia minora etc to improve their size and external appearance.
The surgery can take between 2-5 hours. Most patients like to go home on the evening of the surgery itself. 2-3 days of rest is required and office work can start even 4-5 days after the procedure. Fat volume of 5-8% of body weight can safely be aspirated in one sitting. The patients would need to wear a special pressure garment (lycra body suit) for a period of 6 weeks to 3 months. This allows good skin contours and reduces the swelling.
The effects of a liposuction are visible almost immediately after the surgery. However for the first few days, the swelling hides the effects of the surgery, within 3 -7days after the surgery, the skin contours start to appear as the swelling reduces. Improvement of the skin shape continues for upto 3 months after the procedure. It is important to explain to the patient that there will be loose skin after the procedure, and in a liposuction we do not tackle excess skin. If there is too much loose skin, we must also suggest skin removal procedures like abdominoplasty.
The best patients are the ones who are not overweight and have isolated fat deposits. However even mild obesity patients have reasonable results as long as they understand the need to maintain their diet and exercise schedule
Contraindications
- severe obesity
- unrealistic expectation
- unwilling to diet and exercise after the surgery
- untreated diabetes and hypertension
- any other illness
- excess of loose skin
- abdominal wall laxity and loose muscles
- bleeding disorders.
Vaser
vaser is a form of ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL), which is a significant improvement over conventional liposuction. We can remove 12-15 litres of fat in a single sitting. It is less painful with better skin contours. It is specially very good for scarless breast reduction, gynecomastia, thigh and buttock reshaping.
