Derma-K is a laser incorporating an Erbium (Er: YAG) laser and a CO2 laser. Erbium Laser is for the ablation of superficial skin lesions where as CO2 laser causes controlled thermal damage to the issues. The Laser light is absorbed by the water in the skin cells.

The absorption in turn causes the instantaneous vaporization or destruction of the cell. When a laser light is passed over the skin a mere 30 millionth of an inch of tissue is removed at a time. This incredible control allows treating only as deeply as needed from removing wrinkles to merely refreshing overall skin apperance. After the damaged skin removed new skin quickly regrows in its place.
